    Community-Building Organizations We Support:

    • COVER Home Repair and ReCover Store - Our mission is to build community and foster hope through cooperation and fellowship among all home repair and reuse participants.

    • Everybody Wins! Vermont - Everybody Wins! Vermont fosters children's literacy and love of learning through reading experiences with caring adults.

    • Fairbanks Museum in St. Johnsbury, VT - The Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium is northern New England's premiere museum of natural history.

    • Better World Books - Better World Books utilizes the value of the book to fund literacy initiatives locally, nationally and around the world.

    • Books for Africa - Books For Africa is the largest shipper of donated textbooks to the African continent.

    • Norris Cotton Cancer Center - Norris Cotton Cancer Center is one of the nation's premier facilities for cancer treatment and research.

    • Dartmouth Academic Skills Center - The Dartmouth College Academic Skills Center is for the entire College community. Although our primary goal is to assist students in becoming more efficient and effective learners, we are open to all who wish to improve their academic skills and ability to learn.

    • Upper Valley Land Trust - The Upper Valley Land Trust is a non-profit organization supported by over 1,000 members who share the belief that conserving our region’s rural landscapes and wild places is essential to maintaining the health and vitality of our communities and the special quality of life the Upper Valley offers.

    • Big Green Bus - We are a group of Dartmouth students committed to promoting the use of alternative energies through education and example. On a school bus converted to run on used vegetable oil, we are traveling around the country fostering awareness about current global energy issues and creating dialogue about tangible solutions to those problems.

    • Center for Women and Enterprise - Empowering women to be economically self-sufficient and prosperous through entrepreneurship.

    • Grassroot Soccer - Using the power of soccer in the fight against AIDS, Grassroot Soccer provides African youth with the knowledge, skills and support to live HIV free.

    • WinCycle - WinCycle makes used computers available to local schools and non-profit organizations at low cost, keeps computers and office equipment out of landfills, and sells inexpensive used equipment to Upper Valley residents.

    • Tucker Foundation - The mission of the Tucker Foundation is to educate Dartmouth students to think and act as ethical leaders and responsible citizens in the global community through service, character development, and spiritual exploration.

    • Dirt Cowboy Cafe - The Dirt Cowboy Cafe has been serving freshly roasted and individually brewed coffees to the Hanover community since 1993 and has been voted the "Best Gourmet Coffee Shop" in our region for 7 consecutive years.

    Cool Upper Valley Stuff

    • Dairy Twirl - A Wheelock staff favorite when it's open in the summer. Huge, cheap cones of soft serve or regular ice cream in a variety of delicious flavors. If you get it dipped in chocolate, the nice shell keeps your melting goodness somewhat contained.

      Directions: Head south on 120 out of Hanover towards Lebanon. You go about 5 miles, past DHMC, over 89, and then you come to a stop sign at a T intersection with a gas station in front of you. Go left onto Hanover Rd. Turn right onto Rt. 4/Mechanic St. Dairy Twirl is on the left after the Kleen dry cleaners. It's a big yellow building with a walk-up window.

    • Encore Books - A great used book store in West Lebanon. Open 9am to 8pm Monday-Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm Sunday. Located in the same shopping center as Pier 1 (near Wendy's and Staples).

    • Valley Quest - Valley Quest is an award-winning place-based education program that uses treasure hunts to celebrate community natural history, cultural sites, stories and special places.
